Hello dear reader! It's been a while, no? It's indeed been a while, whatever you might think, so I don't want to beat about the bush, so let's get at it, the fourth of four of the Inniskillin Summer Series, 2010 reviews!
A Two Vineyard (meaning grapes were paired together from two of their vineyards), VQA wine, I chilled this for 15 minutes, for the record, prior to enjoyment, and it comes with a handy screw-top cap for multiple enjoyment - cause frankly, isn't that what life is about?
Pouring this gem, one views a fine yellow, very light hue of colour, and whose being coats the glass somewhat.
This Riesling has a sweet nose, with essences of peach/nectarine, and even pear; it truly smells fruity, rich and even a little creamy. (The older, wiser label notes [either in taste or smell, or both!] lemon, pineapple, and grapefruit...shows what I know!)
The main event (i.e. taste!) does indeed offer masses of fruit, peachy, peariness, with a medium body, this offers some lovely crispiness; very pleasant and refreshing!
Although dry, it is not overly so, as the flavours make up for it nicely; the acidity is, to use a word above, pleasant, and not overpowering.
The aftertaste did offer a little sour bite, which was zingy and dry, but did continue to offer up fruit flavours.
Dinner was served with this wine, as I paired it with tilapia fish with tomato, garlic and onion, done with dried oregano, and a red roasted pepper dip with orzo risotto with mushrooms and spinach. Hungry? I sure as hell was!
This bbbbbbbbeauty paired wonderfully with the food at hand; the creamy sauce with the fish and risotto went great with the wine, as the acid/crisp nature of the Riesling smoothed out the creaminess of the sauce and freshened the palate.
This was another sure winner from the fine folks at Inniskillin, and rounded off the four wines of their Summer Series with a bang. Filled with fruit flavours, it is drinkable either in the afternoon or evening, perfect for a casual lunch with friends, or for a formal dinner with the boss with seafood or white meats. Fruity, crisp, refreshing, this Riesling is a winner for any occasion, and should serve to remind people, as we slip into the grip of Autumn soon (say it ain't' so!) that Spring and its fresh fruits of peach and pear will return again!
It has been an absolute delight to taste, sample, and review these wines from Inniskillin's 2010 Summer Series, and I want to emphasize, as I do time-to-time, that it doesn't matter what you buy, but that you go out and support your local vineyards and brewers, because in this time of globalization, what's near and dear to you is what is nearby and close to home. So, go buy a bottle of local craft, pour it, lift up a glass, and say "cheers" to those who make these homegrown beauties possible.
