One of my earliest memories of this beer goes all the way back (way WAY back in my case) to 2002 and the World Cup (of soccer). Back in those irresponsible university days, I used to stay up all wee hours of the morning, effing around (not doing homework mind you...although I think class was out for the Summer, but anyway, you get my drift), and come World Cup time, I got it into my head that if I was to watch the World Cup, why not partake at 2am in the beer of the World Cup sponsor, Heineken.

What did I know about soccer? Nothing. What do I know to this day about soccer? Well, not much more than nothing, but this beer - still more distinctive in taste than most other lagers - made it that much more enjoyable.

Beer plus dry witted British announcers who claimed they did celebratory scoring flips not unlike the Nigerian soccer team each day before breakfast made for some good sports.

But reading tales of my youth slipping away faster and faster isn't the reason you're here - BEER is the reason! And although this beer will be familiar to oh, 99.9999% of you, I figured I'd review it anyway.

Canned in this case (although it's readily available bottled or on tap), it is a rich, golden amber hued lager, with a sweet almost apply, light to medium nose.

Fresh and with a definite taste of grains (barley or malt, not bitter hops), it is fresh tasting, smooth, flavourful, and easy to drink.

One of the ultimate benefits of drinking this beer (aside from looking suave while doing so...well, maybe not) is its (as noted earlier) lack of bitterness that I have found with some other lagers, and that it does not leave an unsatisfying dry or blah aftertaste (rather it is almost sweet, and pleasant).

But you knew all that already - that's why you drink it, that's why I drink it, that's why my wife drinks it.

And if you know someone who doesn't, tell them to - they're missing out.
